Ma ei mäletagi enam, millal täpselt selle Briti brändi 100% villase masinkootud kampsuni ostsin, see võis olla kindlasti 10 aastat tagasi. Mulle väga meeldivad ühevärvilised lihtsad kampsunid, nii üle pea tõmmatavad kui nööpidega. Kahjuks liigub meelepäraseid toone vähe. Käisin tegin ka praegu ühe tiiru Tallinna kesklinnapoodides ja veendusin, et moevärvidest leidub ploomilillat ja tumepruuni, aga nagu ikka, väga palju beeži jmt igavat. Sageli ei ole koostis 100% vill või on kohe kvaliteedist näha, et topilisus on kiire tekkima. Teine probleem, mis kampsunitega tavaliselt kaasneb, on see, et minu lühikese kasvu juures on neil ALATI liiga pikad varrukad ja kehapikkus jätab samuti soovida. Nii et mul tuleb kas üles keerata või õmblus lahti harutada ja lühemaks meisterdada.
Kolmas probleem puudutab masinkude: seda ei ole võimalik tihedalt kududa, mistõttu toimub kulumine palju kiiremini kui kooksin käsitsi nr 2 vardaga 8/2 lõngast (möönan, et kampsunit ma 1,5 vardaga vist ikka ei viitsiks kududa, liiga palju aega kulub!). Paljud disainerid ei hakka end vaevama ise vanutamisega, nii et nende tooted oleksid kohe tihedamad ja kauakestvamad. Noh, ma ei pelgaks hõredaks kulunud kohtade nõelumist, kui leiaksin meelepärast värvi masinkootud eksemplari. Briti villane on omadustelt väga sarnane meie maavillasele, aga jah, toone liigub vähe ja inglaste elatustase on teatavasti veel kõrgem kui meil. Toasti enda lehel on hetkel valik väike ja hinnad krõbedad (alates 155 eurost). Vähemalt olen saanud selle firmaga väärt kogemuse!
Otsustasin praegu, et pigem on lihtsam osta lõng ja kududa ise. Vbl isegi mitmes toonis: üks kinnine, teine nööpidega. Näis, kuidas mul lõngade leidmine õnnestub. Miks ma ei otsi taaskasutusest? Tundub, et sellised lihtsad kampsunid on inimeste poolt väga hinnatud ja neid praktiliselt ei liigu! Küll on suurus vale, küll ei meeldi värv. Aga tõesti, üliharva leiab midagi 100% naturaalset. Nii tulebki kas täiesti uus osta või ise kududa.

I can no longer remember exactly when I bought this 100% wool machine-knit sweater from a British brand, but it must have been at least ten years ago. I really like simple, solid-colored sweaters, both pullovers and cardigans. Unfortunately, appealing colors are hard to find. I actually took a walk around the shops in central Tallinn today and confirmed that the fashionable colors on offer are plum purple and dark brown, but as usual there is also an abundance of beige and other rather boring shades. Often the fiber content is not 100% wool, or the quality immediately suggests that pilling will become a problem very quickly.
The third problem concerns machine knitting. It is impossible to knit fabric too densely on industrial machines, which means that wear and tear occurs much faster than if I were to hand-knit a sweater using 8/2 yarn on 2 mm needles. (Although I admit that I probably would not have the patience to knit an entire sweater on 1.5 mm needles. That would simply take too much time!)
Well, I am not afraid of darning worn areas if I can find a machine-knit sweater in a color I truly like. British wool is very similar in its properties to our local wool, but attractive colors are scarce, and, of course, the British standard of living is even higher than ours. At the moment, Toast's own website has a rather limited selection and steep prices, starting at around €155. At least I have gained valuable experience from the process!
I have decided that it would probably be easier to buy yarn and knit my own sweaters instead. Perhaps even in several colors: one pullover and one cardigan. We shall see how successful I am in finding suitable yarns. Why don't I look in second-hand shops? It seems that simple sweaters like these are highly valued by people and hardly ever appear there. Either the size is wrong, or I do not like the color. And truly, it is extremely rare to find something made from 100% natural fibers. So the choice is either to buy something completely new or to knit it myself.
To sum up, this sweater is an example of how an item can become so beloved because of its color and the warmth/breathability of its material that you wear it literally until the very end of its life. After that, the real headache begins: finding an equivalent replacement. With shoes, one can often be lucky. You go to a shop, and the same company is selling something similar. But it turns out that sweaters are heavily influenced by whatever colors and styles happen to be fashionable at the moment.
